The Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015 (‘the 2015 Act’) is expected to be commenced in full in June 2022.
The current wardship system will be replaced by a new decision support framework under the 2015 Act.
The current system of wardship will remain in place until then. Once the Act is commenced, no new applications will be made to have a person made a ward of court.
However, after June 2022, the wardship system will continue to operate for a transitional period of three years in order to manage current adult wards’ cases.
