The Decision Support Service (DSS) has today launched simple guides and video presentations, delivered by the Director Aine Flynn, that contain information on the services and functions offered by the DSS and the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015.

There are two videos, the first being a 40-minute presentation on the key reforms that the 2015 Act brings, including the guiding principles, the functional assessment of capacity, details of the decision-making framework and outlines the Director’s powers.

This video also explains, the myth of next of kin, advance planning, enduring power of attorney and advance healthcare planning.

The second video published is a shorter, more condensed version and is 13-minutes long. This video details new legislation connected to the 2015 Act and provides more information on the Decision Support Service and the decision-making arrangements people can make.

Also, the DSS have published an information leaflet, which provides the reader with a guide to the Decision Support Service and simple case studies on decision support arrangements, giving a more detailed insight into how people can use the new legal framework.

In addition, the DSS have also published a poster, which is available to services and is a simple guide to understanding the role of the Decision Support Service.

Supplies of the leaflet and posters are available by contacting The Decision Support Service Waterloo Exchange, Waterloo Road Dublin 4 D04 E5W7.
