DSS Launch Phase 2 of Public Consultation on Draft Codes of Practice

10 Jan, 2022

We have now launched Phase 2 of our public consultation on the draft codes of practice. This phase will run for a number of weeks and close on the 18 February 2022.

Phase one involved six codes of practice consultations and closed on the 7 January after a huge response from the public.

We are now seeking feedback on eight  more codes of practice: code of practice for decision-making assistants, co-decision makers, decision making representatives, attorneys, special visitors, general visitors, court friends and independent advocates.

You can find out more about the draft codes here. You can respond to as many consultations as you wish.

Codes of practice are sets of written rules which define how persons or bodies must act in given situations. These draft codes of practice are designed to assist those who have statutory obligations under the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015 as well as all those who may be called upon to provide assistance to a person with decision-making capacity challenges.

We intend publishing the final codes of practice, with Ministerial approval, before the Decision Support Service opens in mid-2022 when the 2015 Act is fully commenced.
